The provincial electric car subsidy is set to end on December 31, 2026. Take full advantage of the 2024 electric car subsidy right now. Beginning in 2025, the provincial government will gradually reduce financial assistance to consumers of electric cars. Read on to learn everything about the end of the provincial subsidy for electric cars.
As the Government of Quebec launched its ambitious 2030 Plan for a Green Economy aimed at increasing the number of electric vehicles on our roads to 1.5 million by 2030, both levels of government were concurrently offering governmental rebates for hybrid and electric cars.
Until recently, the Quebec government was renewing the Roulez Vert program, which provided a governmental rebate for electric and hybrid cars. For clarity, let's review the current terms of the active program.
The financial aid from the 2024 Roulez Vert program indicates the rebates offered for electric and hybrid vehicles, as shown in the following table:
Type of Vehicle | Governmental Rebate 2024 |
---|---|
Fully Electric Vehicle | $7,000 |
Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle (15 kWh and above) | $5,000 |
Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle (8 to 15 kWh) | $2,500 |
Used Fully Electric Vehicle | $3,500 |
Accordingly, the government rebate for an electric car such as the Volkswagen ID.4 with its extended range is still valid in 2024.
Starting off on a positive note! With the purchase of a Volkswagen electric car in Canada, you will enjoy a package that can extend over 4 years of rapid charging with Electrify Canada, the country's most extensive rapid charging network.
The subsidy for the purchase and installation of an electric charging station is still in effect in Quebec.
For a home Level 2 station, you can benefit from financial support of $600. To qualify, you must be the owner or long-term lessee of the electric vehicle.
For the subsidy for charging stations in condominiums or multi-unit dwellings (5 units and more), you can benefit from financial support of 50% of eligible expenses regarding the work to be done, up to a maximum of $5,000. To qualify, you must be the owner or long-term lessee of an electric vehicle and you must reside in the building in question.
Finally, only vehicles registered in Quebec are eligible for reimbursement for the purchase and installation of the electric charging station under this subsidy program.
