You may not know it, but a new Volkswagen Tiguan rolls off the assembly line every 6 minutes, making it the German manufacturer's best-selling vehicle. This compact SUV has many rivals, and to avoid getting lost in the pack, it stays ahead of it. That’s why the new 2022 VW Tiguan is getting a fresh redesign, eager to retain its title of best-selling VW.
Done waiting for the 2022 Tiguan's release date, it's official out! Build and price it here!
When it was launched in 2009, the Tiguan was powered by a 4-cylinder 2.0 L turbocharged engine with 200 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque and offered the choice between manual or automatic 6-speed transmissions. The quality of its materials and components has always been a key element at Volkswagen, and the Tiguan is no exception: since its inception, it has boasted cozy and comfortable interiors, while their workmanship has always been absolutely impeccable. As for pricing of the new 2022 Tiguan, we note that the 2021 model sells for just under $30,000. The new Volkswagen Tiguan, launching this fall, will be offered with an optional 3rd row of seats, which will allow it to carry up to 7 passengers.

In Europe, the Tiguan is only offered with two rows of seats, and it is powered by a more powerful turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 315-horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. What’s more, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds. Unfortunately, the automaker has no plans to bring this fiery engine across the Atlantic. We can only hope that they will eventually listen to our pleas.
The design of the new Tiguan
We can expect every part of the new SUV to be updated by the German designers, from bumper to bumper. And it starts with a new grille, the brand's new logo, new LED headlights, new 17- or 20-inch wheels, new body colours, new exhaust tips and the Tiguan name under the rear window.
Interior and onboard equipment
Entry-level versions of the new 2022 Tiguan are equipped with the new 8-inch screen MIB3 multimedia system, while the SEL boasts a 10.25-inch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless connectivity. The upholstery features beautiful, checkered diamond fabric in shades of gray and silver, as well as new colours like Hazelnut and Cinnamon, new ambient lighting with a choice of 15 colours, and new colour and fabric combinations.
Under the hood
The new 2022 Tiguan will be available in four versions: Trendline, Comfortline, Comfortline R-Line Black et Highline R-Line. Except for the Trendline version, every version comes standard with 4MOTION all-wheel drive (available as an option on the Trendline). As for engines, the 2022 Tiguan retains the same 2.0 L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 184-horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. It is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Every version comes standard with several features including keyless entry, heated front seats, and several driver-assistance safety systems.
Its cargo capacity should be similar to that of the 2021 model, with 1,065 L with the seats up and 2,081 L after folding them. And since the new Tiguan is powered by the same engine, we expect it will keep the same towing capacity of 680 kg or 1,500 lbs. Its fuel consumption ratings should also be fairly similar, at 10.4/8.1/9.4 L/100 km (city/highway/combined) with front-wheel drive. These ratings increase slightly when equipped with all-wheel drive.
More than safe driving
Safety is always the top priority, and the new Tiguan is certainly well equipped with features such as front fog lights with static cornering lighting, ignition interlock with an alarm system, a dynamic rear view camera, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, a park assist system with front and rear sensors, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control with autonomous emergency braking , blind spot monitoring with rear traffic alert and lane keep assist, to name a few.
The release date of the 2022 Tiguan has not been officially announced, but it is expected to arrive this fall at your Volkswagen Lauzon Boisbriand dealer, located on the North Shore, just a few minutes from Laval.
